NHS Heroes Clap Back Thanks to the Nation for Staying Home

ITV and Uncommon present moving tribute from NHS heroes saluting the nation staying at home and staying in touch

NHS Heroes Clap Back Thanks to the Nation for Staying Home

Clapping for the NHS is the UK’s way of saying thank-you and has become an important moment to help keep the nation united during these uncertain times; an act so emotional it has turned into a weekly salute. But now, in a moving first, our NHS health heroes want to give their thanks back to the UK.

TONIGHT, just after the Clap for Carers moment at 20:02, ITV and Uncommon will present a touching two-minute tribute, a moment broadcast across all our screens, direct from the doctors, nurses and care staff on the front line. In this moving first, NHS health carers give their thanks back to the nation for staying indoors and all their support and love during these unprecedented times.

The health workers then remind us how it's very important we look after our mental wellbeing. While we are all facing this virus, we are also facing another risk to everyone’s mental wellness in these times of isolation. The health service heroes continue to ask the nation to stay at home but to remember to stay in touch. They go on to encourage us to keep talking to one another through these challenging times.

The tribute powerfully ends with more doctors and nurses from hospitals up and down the country clapping in unison – clapping back thanks to the UK. A first, and an unforgettable moment in this historic and unprecedented time. The film is designed to encourage the UK to continue to stay at home but also to stay in touch. NHS Charities Together and ITV hope the film will be shared beyond the moment itself in order to spread the message.

Clare Phillips, director of social purpose at ITV, said: “This film brings together three things that ITV is pouring energy into right now - encouraging people to stay at home, reminding people about the importance of looking after their mental wellness, and celebrating the NHS heroes who are doing everything for us. It's so important that people stay connected - that's what Britain Get Talking was always about - but it's especially important now.”

The poignant moment plays out during ITV’s NHS Day which highlights the vital work of Britain's health service workers in tackling the coronavirus.

The moment is part of the recently re-launched mental wellness initiative from the broadcaster, Britain Get Talking, supported by charities MIND and YoungMinds. The campaign continues to encourage viewers to share their messages of love and support, more than three million people have taken immediate action to talk to someone.
