Code and Theory Launches New Website for Architectural, Urban Planning and Engineering Studio SOM
SOM, global architectural, urban planning and engineering studio tapped digital-first creative agency Code and Theory to design a site that would effectively reflect the quality of their industry-leading work, multi-disciplinary ideas, perspective-diverse people, and values-driven culture.
The studio has long held a legacy of innovation, care for craft, and collaborative approach to process, making them leaders that push the industry forward like no other, since their inception in 1936.
SOM’s previous website had evolved significantly past its configuration and called for a more narrative, editorial-focused experience that would clearly demonstrate the brand’s ideology.
Throughout development, Code and Theory collaborated with over 100 global SOM stakeholders to create a unified site in both English and Chinese.
It is through SOM’s people that they have been able to create a culture that celebrates diverse and unique perspectives, ultimately making their work the best in the world.
On the new site, the breadth of SOM’s portfolio is elevated through the inclusion of space to highlight the creative process, letting users dive deeper into parts of the story that are of particular interest to them, and the projects that prove their innovative and collaborative approach are supplemented with research, ideas, exhibitions, and publications, further cementing the depth and extent of their multidisciplinary contributions to the industry.
Code and Theory sought to highlight SOM’s perspective-diverse people by democratically bringing more people onto the site and connecting them to their contributions, from projects to news to values-driven cultural initiatives.
Additionally, the agency led SOM’s site experience strategy, content strategy, and a comprehensive analytics measurement framework.
