Life Through the Lens of Optimism
Luis Miguel Messianu, chairman, CEO and founder of Alma, on the importance of creative influence outside of advertising and his own love for photography
As an advertising person that grew up through the ranks of the creative department, I think it’s crucial to seek balance between life and work, in order to make sure we find the time to tap into sources and venues of inspiration.
I’ve tried to do it throughout my career and I love to see our creatives attend art and film festivals, music events and cultural influences in general, both here in Miami and as they travel. I’m happy for them as it’s how they keep on blossoming, but selfishly I also see it as part of our learning process which ultimately benefits the creative output on behalf of our clients’ brands.
I celebrate their many talents and I take pride in the fact that several of our people have other loves like music, art, writing and several other skills that are integral to our rich culture, anchored on a sense of curiosity and an attitude of openness and collaboration.
And since I always believed that you have to predicate by example, I’ve been focusing on my own other love beyond advertising. Over the years I’ve been working hard to improve my photographic skills, and I finally had the discipline to establish a hub on Flickr
I see life through the lens of optimism, and I focus on those small magical moments that tell a story in one single image, almost as if my eyes were an uninvited guest in people’s lives. I love to find beauty in places and faces. I barely enhance my pictures and I don’t use any kind of retouching.
I feel the organic aspect of photography is integral to the way I approach it. On my Flickr page you will see a wide of range of shots, mostly taken during my travels. My intention is to become a more well-rounded person and make sure my eye as a communications professional stays clear and sharp. I hope you enjoy this journey as much as I do!
