Pulse Films Signs Directing Duo Machine Operated to Music Video Roster

Pulse Films today announced the signing of Machine Operated to its award-winning music video roster.

Nathan Taylor and Joshua Hercules forged their friendship in 2016, before officially establishing a creative partnership in 2018 through a mutual obsession with its design and imagery.

Fine tuning their creative talents behind the scenes at fashion shows, Machine Operated began their journey - perhaps unwittingly at first - towards becoming directors as they started working closely with young designers and new brands in London, Paris, Milan, Tokyo and New York. Progressively developing a DIY, unrefined video and photo aesthetic that eventually caught the eye of world renowned brands, designers and publications.

In the summer of 2020 the directors were given the chance to construct an idea and shoot a music video with Rejjie Snow and the late MF DOOM. The success of the project led to another Rejjie collaboration, and a handful of other promos. These projects created a momentum that sparked a relationship with GreenTea Peng for whom they made two videos for in quick succession for garnering acclaim for their unique style and vision.

Machine Operated commented: “There’s an endless list of reasons as to why this felt like home for us right now. But most notably, the virtuous and authentic relationships that we’ve built within the Pulse Films family. That’s invaluable, and a commodity that we’ve been seeking for since we started making videos. Something that holds an equal amount of value, is the wide spectrum of work that they continue to cultivate. Their versatility within the medium of film is something we plan to adopt with our directing. Aspiring to express our interests in life and storytelling beyond promos and fashion. Expanding into documentary, narrative short & feature film spaces. We feel as though Pulse Films is the place for us to construct our foundation and launch ourselves upon this journey into.”

Rik Green, head of music videos at Pulse Films added: “Machine Operated's depth of knowledge and technique, coupled with an incredible and clear aesthetic vision marks them as an exciting new talent, I’m incredibly pleased to bring to our roster."
