Show Yanagisawa Celebrates the Arrival of Spring In Stunning Spot for Pocari Sweat

Show Yanagisawa Celebrates the Arrival of Spring In Stunning Spot for Pocari Sweat

Most sports drink ads focus on action and thirst-quenching, but few go any deeper. But in a true ode to the poetry of nature and Japanese craft, Show Yanagisawa and Dentsu Inc. manage to create a powerful film that is so much more than just about the drink.

But I Saw You follows up-and-coming actress Nakajima Sena as she abandons her classmates to float down a kooky never-ending corridor. The scenes that follow are a burst of colour and emotion as Nakajima floats in the air with her friend before continuing her sprint into the sunshine.

And thanks to the behind the scenes clip posted by the production team, we realise that the film is not an exercise in CG but an ambitious, in-camera feat. Nakajima is actually running up and down a hilly hallway and heading face first into a sea of petals.

That devotion to in-camera craftiness is a hallmark of Show Yanagisawa's work - he's a director who has never let 'just do it in post' put him off an ambitious build.

Over the past ten years he's garnered plaudits for visionary productions like the PS4 campaign Gravity Cat, Shisheido's High School Girl and the existential Decay. Read our 5 Minutes with interview with Show here.
