Wise Music Creative Presents: Carl Sigman
The creative team at Wise Music have taken a dive into the works of acclaimed American songwriter, Carl Sigman.
Having graduated from law school, Carl instead was encouraged by friends to embark on a song writing career which would see him become one of the most prominent and successful in American music history.
Primarily a lyricist, Carl collaborated with song writing legends such as Duke Ellington, Bob Hilliard and Bob Russell, as well as writing the English lyrics to a number of songs originally composed in other languages. One of which was the ballad 'You're My World', originally written and recorded in Italian by Umberto Bindi as 'Il Mio Mondo', Carl's English lyric version recorded in 1964 by Cilla Black went on to reach number one in the UK.
Tommy Edwards also scored a number one in 1958 with 'It's All In The game' with lyrics by Carl set to the music composed by Charles Gates Dawes back in 1912. However, he is most widely remembered for writing the lyrics for 'Where Do I Begin' the theme song for Love Story, the top-grossing US film of 1970, with the song becoming a hit for Andy Williams and Shirley Bassey.
