Roopak Saluja

Roopak Saluja 61

Managing Director/Executive Producer at Bang Bang Films

Mumbai, India

Roopak, a half-Indian/half-Nepalese diplobrat, has grown up, studied, worked and lived in ten countries on six continents and speaks eight languages.  This has left him with a sense of being from nowhere and everywhere.  He started working in advertising in client servicing at Young & Rubicam Budapest, where he was trained on the Kraft Foods and Danone accounts.  A few years later, fed up with yoghurt and chocolate, he decided he wasn’t going to work on anything people bought more than once a year and moved to Ogilvy & Mather Paris to run the Motorola account for Europe, Middle East & Africa, where he was instrumental in managing the development of the Hellomoto campaign.

He quit in 2003 to go to business school and do a few other things after which he found himself setting up and running Bang Bang Films, India's international production company, that is focused on producing TV commercials as its core business.  Bang Bang works extensively with various global offices of agencies like Ogilvy, JWT, Saatchi, McCann Erickson, BBDO, BBH, Wieden & Kennedy, Lowe, Publicis, Y&R, Grey and more and counts the likes of Unilever, Nokia, Pepsi, J&J, L’Oreal, Volkswagen and Sony among its largest clients.

Roopak has been a professional trance DJ, performing around the globe from around Europe to South Africa to Goa to Koh Phangan and co-founding and running his own trance label, Procyon Records (Budapest & Paris). He has also acted in a couple of films, holds an MBA from INSEAD in France & Singapore and is addicted to wasabi and several other types of food.  He has a penchant for trivia, especially about capitals and flags. Roopak now lives in Bombay with his actress wife, Tara and baby son, Zen, but is trying hard to engineer the possibility for them to avoid the city (and country) between the monsoon months of June and September on a perpetual basis.

A large part of Roopak’s time and energy is currently focused on building capabilities and rolling out operations for Jack in the Box, a new venture that culminates in the evolution of Bang Bang into a provider of content for brands across multiple platforms and geographies.  Separate from Bang Bang, he is also a member of the Indian Angel Network, a group of eminent entrepreneurs who invest in startup businesses across a variety of sectors.
